Do Chiropractors see kids?

This is a common question that is easily answered. Pediatric chiropractic is the fastest growing segment of chiropractic care, and about 20% of all chiropractic visits nationwide are pediatric. No matter what your child’s issue, we feel chiropractic can help. Our office helps children with ADHD, allergies, anxiety, asthma, autism, bed-wetting, colic, constipation, ear infections, learning and behavioral issues, sensory processing disorder, and much more!

Is chiropractic safe for kids?

Chiropractic care for children, and patients of all ages, has repeatedly been shown to be one of the safest forms of health care there is. This becomes even more apparent when compared with medication, which is often the “alternative” to chiropractic and wellness care. Most times medications are not tested on children and therefore pediatric doses are nothing more than ‘best guesses’ and often times can lead to dangerous and damaging side effects. That is not the case with chiropractic!

What is a subluxation?

The spinal cord has 31 pairs of spinal nerves which exit from between the spinal bones. Although the spinal column offers protection to these sensitive spinal nerves, this delicate balance can be disrupted when the spinal bones become displaced and restricted, causing disturbance to the nerve flow. This is called subluxation.

What are the effects of subluxation?

A spinal subluxation involves a misalignment and loss of movement in the spine which then results in nervous system disturbance. Everything we do is controlled through the nerve system, when subluxation disturbs that system from working properly, it is impossible for the body to function at 100% potential.

What is the role of the Chiropractor?

The primary objective of your chiropractor is to locate, correct and prevent spinal subluxation, thus allowing your full expression of life. By minimizing the effects of subluxation we strive to:

  1. Improve the function of your spine and enable you to be active, energetic and at your best.
  2. Restore, maintain and optimize your nerve system integrity so that the intelligence that runs your body has full access to the tissues of your body.
  3. Keep the communication channels open between your brain and body.
  4. Minimize the effects of subluxation and in so doing improve the body’s self-healing and self-regulating abilities.
  5. Empower you and give you the resources and tools necessary to get yourself healthy through classes, books and references.
What is an adjustment?

The method the chiropractor will use to reduce subluxation is called an adjustment. An adjustment involves the gentle and specific application of a force in order to allow the body to restore normal spinal and nervous system function. Here at Back-2-Back Chiropractic we strive to be able to provide our practice members with the best options for their care. Dr. Neil has taken additional training to become certified in Tourque Release Technique (TRT), and is one of a small number of Chiropractors in the Portland metropolitan area to be trained in Koren Specific Technique (KST), a technique with which patients can be more thoroughly analyzed than ever before, with the adjustments holding better and for longer periods of time.

Who should see a Chiropractor?

Just as healthy eating, exercise and good rest benefit us, chiropractic adjustments are beneficial at all stages of life. At Back-2-Back Chiropractic we find a large percentage of our practice to be children, with the remaining being their families. Whether you are well rested or stressed out, old or young, retired or in school, you will benefit from having your spine and nervous system working at their best.
